What Is PDF-to-Image Conversion?

PDF-to-image conversion renders each page of a PDF document as a standalone image file. Unlike the original PDF, which stores content in a vector or structured format, the resulting images are raster graphics — a fixed grid of pixels. This makes the pages easier to embed in presentations, share on platforms that don't accept PDFs, or open in any standard image viewer without special software.

When Is PDF-to-Image Useful?

There are many practical situations where image versions of PDF pages are more convenient than the original document:

How This Tool Works

Upload a PDF file and the tool processes each page sequentially using PDF.js, a well-established open-source library. Each page is rendered onto an HTML5 canvas at twice its natural display size, then exported as a JPEG image. A progress indicator shows how many pages have been processed.

Once all pages are ready, you can preview them in a thumbnail grid, download any individual page as a JPEG, or download all pages at once as a single ZIP archive. To process a different PDF, click "Extract another" to start fresh.

Image Quality, Resolution, and File Size

The tool renders each page at 2× the PDF's natural viewport size — this means a page designed at 595×842 points (standard A4) is rasterized to approximately 1190×1684 pixels. The output JPEG quality is fixed at 90%, which balances sharpness against file size for most document types.

Because neither the scale nor the quality can be adjusted, the resulting image dimensions and file size depend entirely on the source PDF's own page dimensions and content density. Text-heavy documents typically produce smaller files than PDFs containing photographs or high-resolution graphics.

Output Format

All pages are exported as JPEG files. JPEG is a good choice for documents with photographs, gradients, or complex visual content. However, for PDFs with sharp text, fine lines, or transparent backgrounds, JPEG compression can introduce minor visual artefacts. If you require lossless output, this tool's fixed JPEG export may not be suitable — you would need a tool that offers PNG output.

Tips for Better Results

• Start with a PDF that contains sharp, high-quality source content. A blurry or low-quality PDF will produce blurry images regardless of the render scale.
• After extraction, use the individual download links to save only the specific pages you need rather than downloading the full ZIP.
• If you need to reduce the file size of the extracted images, run them through an image compressor after downloading.
